Before it breaks

1. Register it with the maker the day you buy it — some warranty claims need it.
2. Keep the receipt: snap a photo and save it with the model and serial number.
3. Check your credit card — some cards add purchase protection or extend the maker's warranty. Look up your card's benefits guide.
4. Put the warranty end date in your calendar, with a reminder a month before. Get anything odd looked at while you're still covered.
5. Write down problems as they start (dates, photos, videos). It makes claims and disputes much easier.
